Frequently Asked Questions

  • The price of an original artwork can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the piece, the time invested in its creation and whether the artwork will be reproduced.

If the artwork is not intended for reproduction and remains a one of a kind original, it generally holds greater value and is therefore priced higher.

  • When gathering uku (clay), oneone (earth, dirt) and natural earth pigments, I begin with karakia, acknowledging the atua wāhine who hold and provide these taonga tuku iho. I do not harvest oneone without first seeking permission from the whenua and I remain committed to upholding tikanga throughout the entire process.

Once gathered, karakia and atua continue to guide the process. Karakia are offered before, during and after the preparation of the paint.

When the uku and oneone are carefully ground into a fine pigment, I combine them with kauri gum, hinu and at times contemporary artist binders, depending on the requirements of the work.
